À défaut d'obtenir justice au criminel, Marie Mireille Bence a décidé de se tourner vers la chambre civile de la Cour supérieure du Québec dans l'espoir de faire condamner les policiers qui ont mené l'intervention qui, en août 2021, a entraîné la mort de son fils, en proie à des problèmes de santé mentale. Family of man killed by Repentigny police says lawsuit incoming

The family of a Black man who was fatally shot by two Repentigny police officers in 2021 says it intends to take legal action against the city. The family of Jean-René Junior Olivier says it plans to sue the City of Repentigny “for damages caused for the loss of their son.” Olivier was fatally shot on Aug. 1, 2021 after his mother called 911 because of the psychological state of her son.  Read More

Un spectacle pour enfants sème la controverse dans l’ouest de Montréal

Même si l'oeuvre a été jouée à de nombreuses reprises par le passé, l'une des représentations du spectacle de marionnettes pour enfants L’incroyable secret de Barbe Noire, du conteur Franck Sylvestre, vient d’être annulée à la suite de plaintes de résidents de l’ouest de l'île de Montréal. Ceux-ci allèguent que le personnage de la marionnette est offensant. Une représentation est prévue le 26 février à Pointe-Claire; une autre, organisée le lendemain à Beaconsfield, a été annulée en raison de la controverse.  Read More

A Montreal organization that lobbies against racial profiling is denouncing a Black artist over his award-winning puppet show it says promotes negative stereotypes. "L'Incroyable Secret de Barbe noire" is a play put on by Martinique performer Franck Sylvestre around the province regularly for four to 11-year-old children.  Read More
